Juneteenth Marks the Beginning of Trail Ride Season in Texas

by Laura Chesner | Central Texas Star

One of the area's largest and longer running trail rides kicks off this weekend - Franklin's Gunslingers. The Gunslingers tout themselves as the older and more responsible crowd, but despite being responsible adults, they still like to get down and enjoy themselves. This weekend they are saddling up for a Juneteenth Celebration in the trails.
The site, on Boone Prairie Road, will open the gates on Friday, June 20 at 5:00 pm. for those who want to campout overnight before the trailride. There will be plenty of folks stoking their own BBQ pits and grills, as well as some vendors selling food and drinks. Once the tent is up and the meat is on the fire, there will be music by DJ Smoove and DJ Fred to get the party hopping.
Saturday, the ride starts at 4:00 pm and will go till around dusk. The six-mile ride is one of the more beautiful rides through Robertson County and offers plenty of places to stop and picnic and rest along the way. The weekend wraps up that Saturday evening with more music, food and fun.
